Trauma Informed Yoga at Third Root, 380 Marlborough Road, Brooklyn, NY

Third Root hosts weekly ETI trauma-informed yoga classes. The Exhale to Inhale approach is based in choice-making, safety, and simplicity. These classes will create space for trauma survivors to reconnect to their bodies and their ability to make choices for themselves. Everyone is welcome and anyone can benefit. Classes are offered on a sliding scale, $5-25. Contributions will go towards supporting Exhale to Inhale programming and Third Root.

A student shared with me after class one day that she had recently left a shelter and was now on her own really for the first time since her traumatic situation. She said that shelters tend to have a lot of structure and support, and she felt like she was flailing a bit now that she’s on her own — but that the community classes were so helpful for people like her just transitioning back into life. I’m sure that’s why we started these community center classes, but it really validated how effective it is to sometimes take the classes outside of the shelter system and into neighborhoods that need them!
