Yoga Nidra or divine sleep is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping. It is a state where your body is encouraged to reach deep relaxation through a series of verbal instructions given during the session. In yoga nidra the practitioner remains in a state of light pratyahara with four of his or her senses internalised, that is, withdrawn, and only the hearing remains connected to the instructions.
